Ski Orienteering a big step closer to the Olympics!

This summer I went to Kazan in Russia with IOF President Brian Porteous to present Ski Orienteering for the FISU Executive Committee (The International University Sports Federation). We succeeded and Ski Orienteering was taken up as student sport.

Today it was published that the Winter Universiade in 2019 were awarded to Krasnoyarsk, Russia. At the same time Ski Orienteering was confirmed to be one of the sports in Krasnoyarsk. Krasnoyarsk has always had a very strong SkiO team and many of the worlds best ski orienteers lives here. A big thanks can be given to Alexander Bliznevskij, coach of the Krasnojarsk Ski-O team and professor at the Siberian Federal University for his big job of promoting Ski Orienteering in Krasnoyarsk.

It was also decided that the first World University Ski Orienteering Championship will be held in Russia in 2016.

This is another great step for Ski Orienteering. It shows us that people outside of orienteering can see the big potential in Ski Orienteering and that if we play our cards right and continue develop our sport we can make our Olympic Dream true!
